rom commmmm
what is it about a good chick flick that just makes you feel better. i am an absolute sucker for a good romance and for some reason they are the perfect pick-me-up. even really bad romantic comedies have the redeeming value of being so bad it's comical. one of my best friends and i are constantly on the look out for really bad rom coms and i'm currently the champion for finding the worst one. i think these types of movies appeal to me so much because i love the happy ending. happy endings are often hard to find in real life, but in a good romance the couple ends up together with rainbows coming out of their eyes and woodland creatures building them a house (okay, maybe the rainbow thing is an exaggeration). that's not to say that i don't like movies that don't end perfectly happily, because i do like them, but they don't really make you feel good. there is just something comforting about sitting down with your favorite movie which for me is Sabrina (the new one) and knowing that in the end there will be love in Paris instead of heartbreak in the Valley.

I totally agree. There is so much in life that comes as a disappoint, I feel like movies are a place where we should be able to go and be rid of all of it. Having the happy ending to watch can provide such hope, and every once in a while, we even get one of our own :)
ReplyDeleteAmen! Movies with sad or unsatisfactory endings leave me with a void, feeling all depressed. Why would I want that from something I am choosing to watch? I can get that from real life if I want to. Movies are supposed to create an escape or a diversion from reality. As much as I like to make fun of them, sappy or cheesy rom coms make me one happy girl.
ReplyDeleteI am the exact same way. If someone tells me that a movie has a sad ending or someone dies in the end, etc. I will refuse to watch it entirely. I HAVE to be surprised with that sort of thing and not see it coming. It is because of this reason that I have never watched a Walk to Remember or Charlie. I can't stand watching a movie when I know people are going to die- it ruins the whole movie for me. Honestly, when I sit down to watch a movie, I want to be cheered up- so I am always looking for feel-good happy movies.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love the new Sabrina! I love that it ends so wonderfully and in Paris. There really is nothing better than a good romance where the couple ends up together so happy. I think that we as girls understand this the best!:)I don't mind sad love stories, but there is something about the fairy tale ending, where the prince and princess ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after, that is just way more appealing than them not! YAY for chick flicks
